Tour Route
The tour takes you through the streets of Sligo town in the north-west of Ireland.

Starting on the Riverside Promenade in Sligo town, hear tales of the old Distillery and the mishaps that befell its workers.

Sligo Gaol at Abbeyquarter: Onto the gates of the now abandoned nineteenth-century Victorian jail, to hear stories of inmates and executions.

Sligo Abbey on Abbey Street: This ruined medieval abbey in Sligo has a long and dark history, visitors will hear some of the tales associated with the Abbey. It was destroyed in 1414 by a fire, ravaged during the Nine Years’ War in 1595 and once more in 1641 during the Irish Rebellion.

Sligo Courthouse on Teeling Street: The impressive French Gothic style Courthouse built in 1879, was the site of the former town’s jail and courthouse. Jailbreaks, executions and public whippings were common on this site.

Old Market Street: One of the oldest medieval streets in Sligo, hear tales of the 1832 Cholera epidemic that devastated the town and Bram Stoker’s Dracula connections.

Market Cross: The dead centre of town, with the Lady Erin statue looking down at us, a local infamous murder case is recounted.

St John’s Church on John Street: We end the tour at the gates of this early eighteenth century Church, hear tales of corpses, graveyards and apparitions.
